Artist Notes: Local artist Tony Mills presents ‘8 Miles Away’, a poignant series of eight acrylic-on-canvas paintings. The title captures the emotional and physical distance between two stark realities: the bright lights of the Rampion Wind Farm, which power homes in Brighton, and a nearby bus shelter—just eight miles away—where a homeless man found nightly refuge.
Moved by this contrast, Tony began the series with a mission to help the man secure safe housing. The project resonated widely, with collectors from Brighton to Australia purchasing pieces. Through these sales, Tony raised an incredible £26,000 for charity.
The works are atmospheric and deeply evocative, reflecting the city’s soul through familiar Brighton & Hove landmarks, each painted with both tenderness and urgency.
