Q&A
In the words of young people who’ve stayed with us, the Nightstop experience is: consistent, helpful, humanising, supportive and positive.
“I received every kindness that I sought. Hosts always open the door with a massive smile. That is so key. Being warm, friendly, knowing your name and expecting you really helps to put you at ease. First impressions are really important.”
Our hosts are described as everything from really nice to amazing, and also welcoming, empathetic, kind, genuine, compassionate and open-minded.
Guests tell us that during and after their stay, they felt safe, happy, comfortable, relaxed, relieved and hopeful.
“My stay with Nightstop really helped a lot, gave me time to clear my head. A decent place to sleep takes a lot of the stress off your situation. It was nice that the people where really welcoming and made you feel really welcome.”
Nightstop guests are often nervous about staying in a stranger’s home. But it’s short-lived. Our coordinators place guests with hosts who are experienced, well-trained and know how you’ll be feeling.
We share only the need to know information about you like first name, age, food you like to eat with our hosts so that they can prepare for your arrival. You are welcome to have dinner with the hosts, but you might find it more comfortable to eat in your room. That's okay too.
“I was apprehensive but it was fine once I got there. They were very welcoming and made me feel safe.”
"Very welcoming but didn't ask too many questions. They understood I just needed somewhere safe and warm."
We protect the anonymity of all our guests so you cannot speak with them. But we always ask for feedback and suggestions on how we can improve and the only one we’ve ever had is “get more hosts, so more people can benefit” which says a lot about what we do.
You can listen to some of the young people talk about their Nightstop experience here.
“Being made to feel welcome in a family environment was a beautiful feeling and really helped me.”
You can see host videos on YouTube.
Your stay with Nightstop will depend on your needs and situation. Some young people might stay for just a night while they figure out their next steps. Others may stay for a few weeks until their next home becomes available. You might also be working with support services to create a housing plan and need somewhere stable to stay while everything is being sorted out.
Sometimes, young people need a break from difficult living arrangements, such as challenges with family, a partner, or friends. In these situations, they might stay for a few nights now and then, or even a couple of weeks, depending on our host availability and their needs.
Our coordinators will work with you to make sure your stay meets your needs as best as possible.
Nightstop might not be a good fit for everyone. But don’t worry—we’re well connected. We work with a lot of agencies and organisations, and if we can’t help you directly, we’ll make sure to provide information and guidance on where to go.
Over 25?
We support young people aged 16-25. If you are over 25 and experiencing homelessness or sleeping rough, your first point of contact for support and assistance should be the council.
