Our partnership with Artists Open Houses is special, as we share many things in common – in particular, welcoming people into our homes in Brighton & Hove. Artists have been incredibly supportive in donating art into two online auctions and fundraising for us.
For the May 2024 Festival, we took the bold decision to host an open house so we could display donated art and meet the public face-to-face, at the Business, Enterprise and Careers Hub at Cardinal Newman Catholic School. The display spanned three themes to represent the work we do with young people experiencing homelessness: Community, Kindness and Resilience. A huge thank you to all the artists who donated work and the visitors who came to see and buy it. View the video tour of our open house here.
The icing on the cake for us was two wins at the AOH Awards:
- Tony Mills won AOH Artist of the Year for his ‘8 Miles Away’ series, which blew the judges away
- Alfie White (a student at the school) won a special ‘Upcoming Artist’ award from Awards Sponsors Gemini Print for his photography
When Tony was interviewed on the radio recently, he was asked what he’d like to achieve with the collection, having sold the originals. His answer was that he’d love everyone living in Brighton & Hove to buy a print and hang it in their living room as a community gesture of solidarity.
We’d love that too! You can view and buy his prints at tonymills.com in the knowledge that all proceeds are donated to our work supporting young people experiencing homelessness.
